Exploring the Potential of Youth: UMM Psychology Faculty and DP3A Strengthen the Capacity of Malang Regency Children's Forum as Pioneers and Reporters 2024

Malang, August 6, 2024 – The Office of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (DP3A) of Malang Regency, in collaboration with the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), held an event titled "Strengthening the Capacity of the Malang Regency Children's Forum as Pioneers and Reporters (2P)" in Malang Regency. This event is part of the Child Rights Fulfillment Program through the Strengthening and Development of Service Providers for Improving Children's Quality of Life in Malang Regency. The goal of this event is to enhance the quality of life for children in Malang Regency through the fulfillment of child rights programs.

Participants, including representatives from various high schools and villages/sub-districts in Malang Regency, received training on several essential topics. One of the key topics presented was "Mental Health in Adolescents and How to Become a Good Peer Counselor," delivered by Nandy Agustin Syakarofath, S.Psi., M.A., a lecturer from the Faculty of Psychology at UMM. This session emphasized the importance of mental health among adolescents and how to provide support to peers. Participants were also trained in leadership skills, motivation, and public speaking for teenagers, aimed at developing their public speaking and leadership skills with confidence. Another critical topic covered was the dangers of drugs among teenagers and prevention methods, presented by representatives from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of Malang City. This session provided in-depth knowledge about the risks of drugs and preventive measures to protect themselves and their environment from narcotic threats.

The Faculty of Psychology at UMM played a vital role in this event by offering educational programs and training, providing lecturers, and relevant materials. This training helps the youth to better understand and tackle life's challenges while equipping them with the necessary skills to face various situations. This collaboration demonstrates the university's commitment to supporting government programs, particularly in improving the quality of life for children in Malang Regency.

The event also included various activities led by the Malang Regency Children's Guard, aiming to strengthen the role of the Malang Regency Children's Forum as agents of change in fulfilling child rights and reporting issues faced by children in their communities. With the training and guidance provided, it is hoped that participants can implement the knowledge they have gained and actively contribute to maintaining mental health, preventing drug abuse among teenagers, and effectively reporting problems in their communities
